Sunnyside getting ‘her cool’

Yesterday a team of 5 men came and started on the HVAC in the B&B. The team already installed two new units outside and a lot of hardware inside the house. So far so good and hopefully end next week we finally get it cool in the B&B.

Tonight we have Patty and Brad over for dinner. Our first dinner with guests here in the USA. We hope that many more will follow:-)

Today it is also the 190 years ago that my grandmother's grandfather, captain B.P. Jansen was born. In 1864 he was captured during the Civil War by the Northern navy and brought to trial for being a so called ‘blockade runner’. In Federal Court he was cleared of all charges, but he already lost his ship and cargo.

Because he traveled from New Orleans to Washington DC, and thus came through Virginia, felt like mention this fact.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Really, so your great-great-great grandfather (not sure how many greats to use right now but there are lot, that’s for sure 😉) was accused for being a blockade runner. But he was a Dutch captain in the service of a Dutch companie? Or did he emigrate to the US?

He was Dutch and lived in The Netherlands. He was partly owner of the ship which was Dutch as well. However, the cargo was English. A lot of blockade runners were English and so when BP Jansen was on his way from England to Matamoros, Mexico he got to close to the American coast. And then he was captured, december 5, 1864. If you like you can read more about it on my family website www.vdlinden-jansen.nl
