Each year we remember our dead of WWII and in other wars and peacekeeping missions on May 4th. We hang our flag half mast all day. And so we did yesterday. We also watched on TV the ceremony on the Dam (Amsterdam) with the King and Queen.
Not that the Dutch TV made it easy for us. You always can watch everything through NPO. It doesn't matter if it is LIVE or 'uitzending gemist'. But when you want to watch the Remembrance ceremony live, all of a sudden you're not allowed to because of your region. So just a couple of seconds before 8pm NL time i found it on YouTube as well. Next year we will be prepared and watch it with oir VPN turned on.
Today we celebrate Liberation Day (Dutch: Bevrijdingsdag) to mark the end of the occupation by Nazi Germany during World War II. Our Dutch flag flies proudly.
Wish our Dutch readers a beautiful Liberation Day and hopefully next year all the festivities are back again as well.
